What is Mica Glass?

Mica stove glass (historically called isinglass) is a natural, flexible, and heat-resistant mineral sheet used as a viewing window in antique wood and coal stoves. It withstands extreme temperatures up to 1,800°F (982°C), can be cut with ordinary scissors, and flexes slightly to fit curved frames.

What temperature is MICA glass rated for?

How do I clean MICA glass?

When cool, wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemical or abrasive scrubbers that scratch or flake the delicate mineral layers.

When should I replace the mica?

When mica glass becomes very opaque, brittle, splintered, or develops holes that could let sparks escape into the room.

Can I use tempered glass in a wood stove?

No. Tempered glass is not designed for sustained high heat or direct flame exposure (400° F). Wood stoves require ceramic stove glass that can withstand continuous high temperatures without shattering (1290 °F continuous, ~1400°F for short periods of time).

Is this glass safe for coal or pellet stoves?

Yes — MICA glass is designed for high-heat applications including wood and coal stoves. Ceramic Glass is an acceptable substitute for MICA glass in most stoves. Always confirm compatibility with your stove model.

What if I order the wrong size?

If it's one of our standard/high volume sizes (9x6.5, 9x9 or 9x13), it can be returned if it has not been used (buyer responsible for return shipping). If it's a custom order or a low volume, it can not be returned. We will provide a discount on a replacement. If you're not sure, please contact us before ordering.

Do you offer custom cut stove glass?

Is your glass genuine MICA or Pyroceram?

Yes. We use genuien OEM high-temperature MICA and ceramic glass rated for wood stove use (not tempered glass).
